A/S J. Lauritzen’s Eftf. was founded more than 125 years ago. From being a traditional shipbroker in the 40’ties and the 50’ties, a shipping company in the 60’ties and 70’ties, we have developed into a modern transport, shipping and logistic company.
In short, our history is the following:
1868 The Act concerning the construction of the harbour of Esbjerg is passed in the Danish Parliament.
1874 The harbour of Esbjerg is inaugurated
1884 The company J. Lauritzen, dealing with import and export as well as shipbroking was founded by Ditlev Lauritzen. Shipping business starts in 1888.
1914 After a very active effort for the town and harbour of Esbjerg Ditlev Lauritzen moves the company J. Lauritzen to Copenhagen.
1918 J. Lauritzen, shipbrokers, Esbjerg is sold and taken over by Consul A.C.M. Schmidt.
1930 Due to confusions with the shipping company J. Lauritzen, Copenhagen, the company name of J. Lauritzens Mæglerforretning is changed to J. Lauritzen’s Eftf. Mæglerforretning.
1935 A.N. Svarrer is employed as an apprentice. Having finished his education in 1939 A.N. Svarrer goes abroad and returns later to the Danish Shipowners’ Association in Copenhagen.
1947 A.N. Svarrer returns to Esbjerg and joins the company in 1952 as a co-owner.
1960 The shipping company A.N. Svarrer is founded. In the coming years until 1984, the company manages a fleet of 22 coasters between 400 to 1200 tdw .
1968 Shipowner A.N. Svarrer takes over J. Lauritzens Eftf. as sole proprietor. Knud Svarrer enters the company after having finished his commercial shipping education.
1973 J. Lauritzens Eftf. Shipbrokers is turned into a limited company, A/S J. Lauritzen’s Eftf. In cooperation with the company Alfragt A/S they launch a stevedore and warehouse company, which develops into JUTLANDIA Terminal ApS.
1974
Generational change. Knud Svarrer succeeds A.N. Svarrer.
1976
Knud Svarrer is appointed French consul. JUTLANDIA Terminal ApS, consisting of warehouses of 8400 m2 and 40,000 m2 open area, is inaugurated. |

1979 A/S J. Lauritzen’s Eftf., Esbjerg moves into new offices of 1100 m2 in the centre of the harbour of Esbjerg.
1980
The first job as an offshore base in cooperation with JUTLANDIA Terminal ApS and A/S J. Lauritzen’s Eftf.
1982 Inter-european traffic with trucks.
1984 A/S J. Lauritzen’s Eftf., Esbjerg celebrates its 100th anniversary.
1985 A/S J. Lauritzen’s Eftf. launches swap body and container freight to Italy, which over time developed to become one of the company’s main activities.
1986 A/S J. Lauritzen’s Eftf. takes over JUTLANDIA Terminal ApS as sole proprietor and turns it into a Limited Company.
1987 A/S J. Lauritzen’s Eftf. opens a branch office in Copenhagen and a subsidiary in Italy by the name of Lauritzen Italia Srl.
1988 A/S J. Lauritzen’s Eftf. becomes co-owners of the railway company Kombi Dan A/S .
1992 The branch office in Italy closes.
2000 A/S J. Lauritzen’s Eftf., Copenhagen, provides third parts logistic solutions in the field of electronic equipment.
2002 A/S J. Lauritzen’s Eftf. provides third parts logistic solutions in the field of storage hotel.
2004 Jutlandia Terminal takes over Seaport Stevedoring as sole proprietor.
2009 A/S J. Lauritzen's Eftf. celebrates its 125th anniversary.
2010 A/S J. Lauritzen's Eftf. opens new office and logisticswarehouse in Italy.
2010 Generational change. Kristian Svarrer and Kasper Svarrer succeed Knud Svarrer as Managing Director and Chairman of the Board, respectively.
2011 A/S J. Lauritzen's Eftf. opens office in Norway.
